Royal Gardens of Aranjuez

AranquezBackground

Undecided where to go while visiting Madrid? Come with us to the delightful Royal Gardens of Aranjuez which was a popular retreat for the Spanish Bourbon Royal family in the 18th & 19th centuries. You will find out just why it was so special. Fresh air, fountains, herb gardens, lawns, statues, the Prince’s Forest and the Bourbon Royal Palace all await us. This day excursion is ideal for those who love walking and enjoying outdoor life, history and a pleasant meal with local wine. We do remind you that Aranjuez is also famous for its strawberry & whipped cream! Getting there is easy on the brand new train from Puerta del Sol (40 minutes).

Our Tour of the Royal Gardens of Aranjuez

Aranquez GardensFirst we visit to the Royal Palace, a kind of luxury hunting lodge for royalty and then take a walk through their once private gardens now open to us mere mortals!

By the time we finish the first part of our visit, it will be time for lunch. And there is only one suitable place for us to partake of lunch in Aranquez; namely the Green Frog (Rana Verde) where we have a table overlooking the River Tagus. It really is one of the most perfect settings to have a meal in all of Christendom!

What better way of walking off your meal with an hour’s stroll through the forest with its meandering pathways, statues of Roman Gods, majestic fountains and exotic plants. Can we really only so closes and yet so far away from the five million souls in Madrid?
