This is our special wine excursion to Toro with an overnight stay in this historical, quiet town. Toro is a 3 hour drive north west of Madrid, situated on the banks of the Duero River, in the Province of Zamora. The wines here are from the full-bodied, Tempranillo grape.
Our host will be a long standing friend and renowned wine expert, Nicola Thornton. Her wine tasting class will be at a winery in the town, with a splendid opportunity for you to ask questions on all matters pertaining to wine. Apart from being very knowledgably, Nicola has the patience and presence of mind to answer all queries even of the history of the Spanish grape.
After a very busy and informative day, we’ll have dinner at a very special local restaurant and spend the night at Hotel Juan II, overlooking the Douro River valley, a 2 minutes’ walk from the Romanesque church Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor
The following morning Nicola will take us to a nearby vineyard, to get an insight to the growing, harvesting and barreling of the local wine. Lunch is at the famous university city of Salamanca and a chance to visit the two cathedrals and chill out in the most magnificent of all Spanish Plaza Mayors.
